DelMarVa Birding Weekend 2015
Thursday April 23rd to Sunday April 26th
 

An unbelievable opportunity to explore the Delaware and Maryland natural areas offering unique birding experiences along the seashore, bays, marshes, wetlands and forests.  The Spring Migration is particularily unique to the Eastern Shore.    And you will enjoy observing waterfowl, raptors, and many other species paddling on the water, hiking, or on pontoon boats.

Birds of Bombay Hook
Time: 8-11 a.m.
Location: Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge near Leipsic, DE
Cost: Lunch not included; $25 per person

DuPont Nature Center at Mispillion Harbor
Time: 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Location: DuPont Nature Center at the Mispillion Harbor Reserve near Milford, DE
Cost: $20 per person
Search for migratory shorebirds, wading birds and waterfowl along Slaughter Beach, and learn about the connection between horseshoe crabs and shorebirds at the new DuPont Nature Center.

April 24th Friday
Ayers and Trappe Creek Sunset Paddle kayak_iconsmall.gif

Location: Ayers Creek Adventures, Berlin MD
Cost: $40 per person tandem - solo kayaks are $50 per person
Paddle along on a guided tour through the salt marshes of Ayers and Trappe Creeks. Enjoy the show as dozens of species settle in for their nightly roost. You are likely to see bald eagle, osprey, heron, egrets, hawks and gulls. Join us for a post paddle bonfire and enjoy conversation and s'mores. This smooth water paddle is appropriate for all levels.

Redden State Forest

Friday - April 24
Time: 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Location: Redden State Forest near Georgetown, Delaware
Cost: $20 per person
Redden State Forest close to Georgetown, Delaware, some of the best habitat for breeding forest birds, including red-headed woodpecker, summer tanager, yellow-throated, hooded and Kentucky warbler and yellow-throated vireo. Easy walking, and car caravans between major stops.

Location: Coastal Kayak in Fenwick, Delaware
Cost:  $40 per person tandem, $50 per person solo.
Enjoy paddling the salt marsh trails of Fenwick Island the Rehoboth Bay, wading birds, shorebirds, osprey, enjoyiung elusive trails.   Must be 13 years old to participate.

Birds of the Prime Hook
Friday - April 24
Time: 1:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
Location: Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge near Milton, Delaware
Cost: $25 per person, includes refuge entry fee
Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge near Milton, Delaware, is an excellent birding location for the Friday afternoon. Search for migrants and local breeders, including wading birds, shorebirds, rails, prothonotary warblers, and scarlet tanagers, and colorful songbirds   Some easy walking, and car caravans between major stops. Meet at the Prime Hook NWR Visitor Center on Turkle Pond Road.

Owl Prowl At Shad Landing
Time: 8-10 p.m.
Location: Pocomoke River State Park – Shad Landing - Pocomoke City, Maryland
Cost: $20 per person
Explore the trails of Pocomoke River State Park at Shad Landing in search of resident owls and other nocturnal creatures. This trip offers a guided hike through pine and hardwood forests and wetlands

Deal Island Marsh Exploration

Location: Skipjack Museum and Heritage Center in Chance, Maryland
Cost: $25 per person
Hike through the Deal Island Wildlife Management Area with great opportunities to view a variety of warblers, raptors, and wading birds. We will meet in the morning at the Skipjack Museum and Heritage Center in Chance, Maryland, and bird along the woodland and salt marshes off of Riley Roberts Road in nearby Dames Quarter. Light hiking and car caravans

Prothonotary Pontoon Morning

Location: Pocomoke River Canoe Company in Snow Hill, MD
Cost: $30 per person
The northern reaches of the Pocomoke River are rich in both migratory waterfowl and woodland birds. The trip takes about two hours and departs from Gateway Park in Snow Hill.

Cost: $40 per person tandem - solo kayaks are $50 per person
Guided canoe trips will be offered on the Nassawango Creek, a tributary to the Pocomoke River thick with warblers. Over 9,200 acres along Nassawango Creek have been preserved by The Nature Conservancy, which makes this 3-hour trip bordered by bald cypress a beautiful one.

Wings Over Williams’ Point
Time: 8-11 a.m.
Location: Delmarva Discovery Center in Pocomoke, MD
Cost: $20 per person
Williams' Point, near Shelltown, provides opportunities to view warblers, raptors, and wading birds. Come prepared to explore the coastal marshes of the Pocomoke Sound Wildlife Management Area and the Chesapeake Bay.

Shore Bird Explorer
Time: 2-4 p.m.
Location: Shorebird Explorer Talbot Street Water Sports in Ocean City, MD
Cost: $30 per person
Trip will negotiate Skimmer Island and the northern shore of Assateague Island.

Night Birds of the Marsh

Location: E.A. Vaughn Wildlife Management Area
Cost: $20 per person
Tour the E.A. Vaughn Wildlife Management Area near Girdletree, MD. Seek out least bitterns, rails, marsh wrens, and maybe even some owls. Bring a flashlight and boots or shoes you won't mind getting wet. Meet behind the Snow Hill Library.

Ocean City Tally Rally

Meandering Meadows
Time: 8-11 a.m.
Location: Golden Quarter Farm near Berlin, MD
Cost: $25 per person
Stroll along some 150 acres of former farmstead regenerating to meadows, scrub-shrub habitat, wetlands, and woodland. Good opportunities to hear and see hawks, eagles, field sparrows, cedar waxwings, wood ducks, prairie warblers, yellow-breasted chats, and northern bobwhite, among others. Be prepared for wet, but not flooded, walking trails.

Newport Farms Diversity Walk
Time: 8 a.m.-noon
Location: Newport Farms near Berlin, MD
Cost: $25 per person
Saunter through old pines and oaks, farm fields, grass buffers, and tidal marsh for a trip showcasing enormous bird diversity. The 2,000-acre Newport Farms will reveal her secrets during this three-hour walk through the privately owned property. A 50-acre shallow pond on the farm harbors nesting bald eagles, wood ducks, and wading birds.
