Worcester County Humane Society

Overview
A loving pet is a wonderful friend.
But too many pets are ignored, abandoned or mistreated by owners. The Worcester County Humane Society believes that no animal should suffer because of human cruelty and carelessness. With the support of our membership, we have been able to serve the community and to help distress animals in our area since July 1977. Now is the time to renew your membership...or become a new member...so that together we can continue to be true friends to the animals who need us.

Purpose

The purpose of our organization is to provide a refuge for unwanted animals until they are placed in loving homes. Dedicated volunteers work diligently to:

  1. Reunite lost animals with their owners
  2. Provide food, shelter, medical attention and plenty of TLC for abandoned animals
  3. Adopt orphan animals to responsible, loving owners; always with a SPAY/NEUTER requirement to prevent contributing to animal overpopulation, the #1 problem confronting animal agencies
  4. Investigate reports of cruelty or neglect and take appropriate actions to correct violations
  5. Educate the public to proper treatment of animals and the importance of neutering their pets
  6. Support legislation to protect animal rights

Volunteer Opportunities

Each day of every year since July 1977, shelter volunteers have been on duty. All the animals have been fed and taken care of, and the cleaning chores accomplished. A 365-day-a-year schedule is difficult under any circumstances. It could become impossible if only a handful of animal lovers report for duty, while the others give only lip service. There are not enough of us guarding the fort.

The time to act is NOW. The Humane Society needs young people - and mature people in good health - to help at the shelter. Can you spare a few hours a week? Be honest with yourself. Do you sometimes feel guilty because you waste so much time? Or, if you are active, do you still have time you could give to help the homeless animals who cannot help themselves. This work will banish boredom and give you a good feeling of satisfaction. If you helped at one time and drifted away, why not return? You know from experience how grateful the animals are for the attention and TLC. In return, they help you to relax and lower your blood pressure, according to the latest medical information.

If you love animals and would like to lend a hand, come to the shelter NOW. Don't wait too long - or when you finally arrive the sign on the door may read - CLOSED BY INDIFFERENCE.
