Hooper's Crab House and Restaurant Burns to the Ground

A fire that started early Tuesday morning developed into a four alarm call which ended with the famous Hoopers Restaurant located at the west side of the Route 50 Bridge burning to the ground. The fire started in the back of the restaurant and spread quickly throughout damaging virtual all historic and memorabilias adorning the interior. Damages estimated at $1 million dollars. An investigation is under way.

Hooper's Restaurant opened in June 1982, and is owned by Pete and Royette Shepherd.

5:55 A.M. 911 called as a former Ocean City firefighter spots flames at the north side of the building while passing by.
6:00 A.M. 911 receives second call reporting a fire at Hooper's
6:00 A.M. First units of Ocean City Volunteer Fire Department at the scene, pumping units are set up to retreive water from the nearby bay.
6:01 A.M. - 6:05 A.M. Additional units arrive, two aerial towers and three fire units at the scene

6:05 A.M. Rapidly spreading blaze causes OCVFD to issue a second alarm for all available equipment and personnel to be deployed at the fire.
6:09 A.M. Additional pumping stations set up to acquire water from bayside south side of Rout 50 laying hoses across interstate Route 50.
6:24 A.M. Fire escalates further requiring units inside the building to withdraw and work the fire from the exterior until extinguished.
6:35 A.M. Roof colapses... building is totally engulfed in flames.
